MOC Director of Sport and Chef de Mission Mark Cutajar yesterday told The Malta Independent that the project which was started two years ago after the Cyprus Games is moving on target, but not all the objectives had been reached in these Games.
He said: “This has been the best result ever away from Malta in these Games. We must consider also that shooting, basketball, sailing and gymnastics, where we had potential winners, were not included this time.
“We also have to say that our athletes obtained several personal bests and set new national records. Others were very close to a medal.”
Cutajar said that it was something positive to see the athletes being frustrated because they won the silver medal and not the gold. “This shows that their attitude is changing into a winning one. That is what we wanted and that is what we got. Our next objective is the Olympic Games in London next year. We’ll see what we can do till then,” he added.
