The government has granted Valletta FC a large piece of land at Hal Farrug, limits of Mqabba, on lease for 50 years.

Club president Victor Sciriha said Valletta FC signed the agreement with the government and the project, which will include the construction of a football stadium, will start soon after MEPA issues the relevant permits.

It has been the dream of Sciriha to see Valletta moving out of the City in his efforts to turn the club into a company.

It all started last year with the players signing on semi-professional or professional form with the citizens.

Now Sciriha has turned his eyes on this project saying that it will not consist solely of the stadium (perhaps with an 8,000 seating capacity), but also of premises to house a good number of supporters who would wish to relax in a family atmosphere during weekends when the team is not in action.

In the past few months, Sciriha made this project his No. 1 target as he intends to turn Valletta FC into a club which will not be dependent solely on the whims of one person. He wants Valletta FC to be turned into a self sufficient company which he believes will be successful.

In actual fact, he is expected to relinquish his post as president of the club to become chairman of the company which will be set up in due course.
