Last year’s open water swimming champions Davina Mangion and Roberto Demicoli, maintained their unbeaten march in open water swimming with emphatic victories in the first race of this year’s championship held at Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha.
No fewer than 78 swimmers took to the crystal clear waters of Golden Bay, giving a flying start to Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Open Water Swimming Championships for 2011.
Sponsored by Power Bar and held under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, these championships are growing year after year in popularity, especially when one considers that a number of established swimmers could not make it to Golden Bay this morning.
Malta’s top swimmer Davina Mangion left the field in her wake with a magnificent 28 minutes two-kilometre swim. First male to finish was Roberto Demicoli in 30 minutes 57 seconds.
