The European Handball Federation Executive Committee kicked off its two-day meeting in Malta during a press conference at the Le Meridien Hotel and Spa yesterday.
The media was addressed by Louis Borg, the long serving Malta Handball Federation President, Mr Tor Liam, the EHF President, Michael Wiederer, EHF Secretary General and Mr Jean Brihault, EFF Vice President.
Introducing the press conference, Mr Borg said that it was a great honour for such a small country like Malta to host such a prestigious meeting of the EHA, a first for Malta.
He said that this also demonstrated the high standing with which the MHF was held internationally.
Michael Wiederer said that the meeting was an important one for the EHF as a number of important decisions were to be taken. These included the fixing of the season which starts on 1 July, the Champions League, the Final Four trophy as well as the European Challenge Tournament.
He revealed that the Project Contract signed with the Maltese Federation provides for a number of conditions and opportunities amongst which is the organization of the Challenge Trophy which was a huge success last time it was held here.
Mr Liam echoed his partner’s sentiments adding that it was great for the committee to be here and to hold its meeting in Malta. Louis Borg also revealed the names of the coaches who would be taking over the national sides and these are Matthew Mamo, Christian Maclean, Joe Falzon and Orlando Bonnici.
The press conference ended with the signing of the Project Contract between Mr Liam and Mr Borg.
