Birkirkara FC confirmed yesterday that their first signing of the 2011-2012 campaign is 21- year old Leighton Grech. He has joined ‘The Stripes’ on a five years contract.

Grech is a Hibernians FC nursery product and last season he was loaned out to Vittoriosa Stars. Although Leighton Grech failed to help his team to keep their Premier Leagues status, he was definitely one of the best youngsters in the Premier League. Grechwas voted as the second most promising player during the Malta Football Awards held a few weeks ago.

Last season the Under 21 International player made no less than 20 appearances with Vittoriosa Stars. He made 15 appearances in the startimg line-up, and he was utilised as a substitute in the other five times. He also managed to score two goals.
