Squash: ‘The Palace’ Open Tournament at the Malta Union Club

Malta Independent Wednesday, 22 June 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Malta Union Club in Sliema will be hosting another Open tournament on Saturday, The Palace Open. The tournament is backed by Malta Squash, with Ivan Balzan being the tournament rirector.

There will be three categories: Mixed Open events for national team and experienced players, intermediate players and for beginners.

It is worth mentioning that this will be the first local tournament following the national team’s extremely successful performance at the GSSE earlier this month, so the Union Club tournament could be regarded as ‘icing on the cake’! As such most of the national team players will probably take part.

Unfortunately, the new Malta champion and Malta Union Club member, Bradley Hindle Deguara, is playing in an international tournament overseas and will be unavailable. However it is expected that other well known players in the local camp will be taking part.

Some of the juniors like Colette Sultana and Jean Balzan, who were the winner and finalist respectively in the Under 17 category in the recent junior open, should also hopefully be participating. The winner of the Under 15 category, Ryan Rizzo might also be tempted to participate.

So it all looks like being another very interesting tournament at the Malta Union Club.

The draws will be taking place today.
