Malta Independent Thursday, 23 June 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A 25-year-old man from Żebbuġ died on Tuesday evening when he lost control of his car, a red Toyota Funcargo, as he was heading towards the Santa Venera bridge and fell off the road leading to the Valley Road bridge in Msida.

The man, who leaves behind a son, died on the spot.

The accident happened at around 11.45 p.m. No one else was injured.

Police sources said the car was being driven towards the bridge when it suddenly hit a barrier and fell off the road. It overturned as it landed on the road below.

Commenting in an online news portal, Stephanie Galea dismissed suggestions that the deceased, who is her cousin, crashed because he was under the influence of alcohol.

“He was at work before the accident took place and he was on his way home. He was one of a kind and he’ll be missed by all friends and relatives.”

Medics and members of the Civil Protection Department arrived shortly after the accident and brought the deceased out of the car.

Duty Magistrate Edwina Grima is holding an inquiry as police investigations continue.
