Play Offs 3rd Place
Sirens Ritter Sport 12
San Giljan Giuseppe’s 15
(3-4)(3-3)(3-3)(3-5)
San Giljan will start the second phase with two points, after their victory over a consistent Sirens side, who however did not have a killer touch.
San Giljan started well, gaining a 3-0 advantage, but they were overhauled by the St. Pauls Bay side, after the interval. The Saints regained the lead, and a further three strikes, in the final quarter, had them establishing a good enough advantage to last them till the end of the match, despite a reaction by Sirens, late in the encounter.
Sirens put their man ups to excellent use, when they only failed on one occasion, in eight extra player advantages. San Giljan were not so prolific, finding the net in half of their eight extra man in the water.
Sirens had their Humgarian, Balazs Nyeki, with a four goal tally, and Clint Mercieca netted a hat trick. The saints, had three players, all on four goals, the two foreigners, Nikola Sutic and Filip Trajkovic, along with an accurate Christian Gialanze.
It was still uncertain, when the last period began, as San Giljan held a single goal advantage, but a three goal run had them on the game’s biggest lead, and this carried them through the remaining time, leaving Sirena to begin the top division proper, with a single point.
