Local Premier club Hibernians elected Tony Bezzina as its president for the 33rd consecutive year – he is undoubtedly the longest serving president in the Premier League, if not in the hole of Malta.
The Paola club, who had a miserable last season, have announced the signing of two Brazilian players – defender Diego Douglas Balbinos and Edison Luis dos Santos in an effort to strengthen the squad.
Balbinot is a 27-year old defender who played in Brazil, Hong Kong, Estonia and Hungary. On the other hand, for dos Santos, this will be his second year in Malta after playing for Vittoriosa Stars last season, having left a rather good impression.
The local website maltafootball.com said the club president has also revealed during the club’s general meeting that the Paolites are also hoping to further strengthen their squad with the arrival of another Brazilian player as well as two Nigerian U-21 internationals.
Bezzina revealed the club is hoping to sign another Brazilian player together with two Nigerian Under-21 internationals.
It also said that players Andrew Cohen and Mario Muscat had signed long-term deals with the club, quashing rumours that they (especially Cohen) were on their way to joining other clubs.
