To me it comes as a surprise when our politicians speak of being serious on issues of environment, and then such national monuments such as the Addolorata Cemetery, in Paola, and the San Anton gardens in Attard, are treated with so little tact as to conservation.

From the mere appearance of things, both suffer similarly from dilapidation in their overall infrastructure. Both of these national jewels have been left to deteriorate without consistent management for years on end.

No program of conservation seems to be in the pipeline. Tourists and locals alike, and countless Maltese from abroad visit both and to the dismay of all, footpaths are in tatters, lighting has never been introduced, CCTV is nowhere to be seen, there are no real seating amenities and Mother nature has been left loose without any care.

Our politicians, need to draft a feasible program, not just for private quarters, but also for areas where citizens are allowed in, at any time of the year.

In the Addolorata Cemetery our burried relatives deserve better. We ordinary folk, deserve better in the upkeep of both areas. Dear politicians, people might be deceived for a short while, with electoral promises. Citizens want more pragmatic day to day concern, through the enforcing of managing structures.
