Malta Independent Tuesday, 28 June 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Former Marsaxlokk and Malta international midfielder Gareth Sciberras signed a three-year deal with Birkirkara FC yesterday.

Gareth began his Premier League adventure with Pieta Hotspurs in the 2001-2002 season, and spent four seasons with ‘The Hotspurs’. With Pieta he made 85 appearances and managed to score four goals.

In the 2004-2005 season he joined Marsaxlokk. With the southern seasiders he had a very successful six-season spell where he managed to establish himself as one of the best midfielders on the Island. With the south-seasiders he made no less than 103 appearances and scored nine goals in the Premier League. In season 2006-2007 he helped the side win the Championship for the first time ever.

Sciberras is therefore joining his former coach at Marsaxlokk, Patrick Curmi, who has been appointed new Birkirkara coach for this season.

The midfielder is now expected to be also included in Curmi’s squad for next Thursday’s Europa League clash against Vllaznia of Albania as clubs are allowed to make one change to the original list sent to UEFA before the deadline.
