San Michel International ranking tournament at Kordin Club

The Tennis Club Kordin, in collaboration with The Malta Tennis Federation, is hosting this year’s U-16 tennis European tournament for the sixth consecutive year, .

Since this tournament is part of the Under 16 Tour of Tennis Europe, it has once again attracted a significant number of players not only from Europe but from all over the world.

The number of participants this year is outstanding with a total of 184 players; 120 of whom are boys and 64 girls. These players hail from 26 different countries namely Australia, the United States, Great Britain, Italy and Germany among others.

For yet another year, the European tournament is expected to be of an exceptionally high level having the best ranked players reaching 68 in Europe in the boys’ category with Vasilios Stavropoulos from Greece and the 160th ranked girl Alina Semashko from Russia.

Malta will be represented by some of the island’s best youngsters.

In the boys’ category the Maltese team will consist of Raphael Sammut who currently holds the 711th rank in Europe, Bernard Cassar Torreggiani ranked 740, Mark Schranz 1,237 alongside Patrick Georgiev and Matthew Cassar Torreggiani.

The girls team is made up of Rebecca McCarthy and Alexia Cassar, both holding a ranking of 1,363, Maria Giorgia Farrugia Sacco ranked 1,671 and Naomi Zammit Ciantar.

The tournament will commence with the qualifying rounds being played on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July 1. Signing in for this draw will take place on Friday 8 July.

Signing in for the Main Draw is to be held on Sunday 10 July with the Main Draw matches starting on Monday 11 July and ending with the final on Saturday 16 July.

On Monday 11 July players are to sign in for the doubles draw, with the doubles matches starting on Tuesday 12 July.
