Etienne Bonello of Team Greens (photo) confirmed his superior time trial form after winning the second round of the time trial national championship at Bahar ic-Caghaq on Sunday .
He clocked the 33.7km distance in 47:07. Steve Sciberras of Mosta AF Sign Studio made an incredible effort to finish just three seconds away from Bonello. Jason Vella of Greens finished third 14 seconds away from Sciberras.
On a near perfect day and absolute sunshine, over 80 participants took to the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast road to cover the distance as fast as they could.
Perfectly organised by the Malta Cycling Federation, the race was run smoothly as riders dashed by in their aerodynamic bikes and equipment.
Starting as the clear favourite on the day, Bonello did not fail, as he started to increase his momentum lap after lap and crossed the line gasping for air following his effort.
With Sciberras and Vella now posing a serious challenge to Bonello, this duel may be relived next Sunday at Bahar ic-Caghaq with another time trial organised by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club .
