Malta Independent Saturday, 2 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Malta’s national waterpolo team yesterday made a remarkable comeback to earn a much deserved 5-5 draw against Poland in the final match of the Qualifying Group A of the European Championships.

Although already qualified for the next round, Malta refused to go down to the Poles, although our lads were undone by some harsh refereeing decisions.

The draw ensured that Malta take seven points, with wins against Turkey and Poland at home.

Malta’s scorers yesterday were Steve Camilleri (3), Michele Stellini and Paul Privitera.

Even Malta’s coach Afric was very delighted with the final result and praised the fighting spirit showed by the Maltese players, despite playing against all odds in front of a large crowd in Szieczin .
