I followed the articles and correspondence of Dr Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci (“At Home”, TMIS, 15 May) and the reaction of Nicola Petroni (“Home”, TMIS, 22 May), as well as the answer by Dr Schembri Bonaci (TMIS, 29 May).

I was surprised by the position that Kenneth Gambin, Chief Curator at Heritage Malta took (TMIS, 12 June).

Besides the fact that Mr Gambin did not seem to grasp Dr Schembri Bonaci’s argument, it is incredible that he tried to hide the fact that there was lack of protection to the historical monuments of the greatest sculptor  Malta has had, Antonio Sciortino. 

I cannot understand why Kenneth Gambin disagreed with Dr Schembri Bonaci, when work in the loggia of the museum started and continued to be carried out without proper protection for the works of art.

In fact, Checkov’s monument remained exposed to the fine stone dust. 

One can imagine the negative effect stonework being carried out in such a restricted area can cause, not only on the works but also on the paintings and other works found on the first floor. Everyone knows that stone dust is so fine that it creeps into every nook and cranny.

I wonder why on such a question, the Chief Curator tried everything to find a way to disagree with the arguments of Dr Schembri Bonaci.
