The Taekwondo Dragon Club (TDC) held its last grading examinations on Saturday 4th June 2011 at St.Martin’s College, conducted by the club instructor Sabomnim Stephen Formosa.
The candidates were Duncan Munro, Gabriel Borg and Antonio Privitera. The latter was promoted to 8th Kup (Yellow belt) whilst the other two were promoted to 1st Kup (Black Tab). Duncan Munro who is only ten years of age achieved the highest average mark amongst all. Both Borg and Munro would be sitting for their 1st Dan and 1st Poom respectively in November.
A Dan promotion test was held by the Malta Taekwondo Federation on Sunday 29th May at Birzebugia Primary School. The technical board was chaired by Master Christopher Vella 6th Dan. In total there were five candidates three of whom are members of the TDC. The candidates were Irina Atanasova who was promoted to first Dan, Josef Spiteri who was promoted to second Dan and the club instructor Stephen Formosa who was promoted to 5th Dan. All three candidates obtained the highest marks with Spiteri achieving the highest mark amongst all. Formosa, who also makes part of the MTF technical board, was replaced temporarily by Mr. Joseph Schembri during the grading. By obtaining his 5th Dan, Formosa became the highest Taekwondo rank residing in Malta. For his test he was exclusively assessed by Master Vella himself, whilst the others were judged by the technical board.
