Malta Independent Tuesday, 5 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Nescafeis celebrating its long history of making the world’s most beloved coffee by introducing the NESCAFÉ Vintage Collection as part of the widely popular Nescafe Collect Scheme. The Vintage Collection comprises two new and unique gifts: A coffee pot and a salt & pepper set, both of which are inspired by and imprinted with imagery from old NESCAFÉ adverts, which over the years have gained something of a cult status, and are reminiscent all those qualities that have made NESCAFÉ the world’s premier coffee brand!

Indeed, the Nescafe coffee you’re enjoying today is a perfect brew of a history that harks back to the 1930’s, when Nestlé revolutionised the way instant coffee was made. Soluble coffee was first invented in China in 1901, however nobody every managed to retain the taste and aroma of freshly grounded coffee in soluble form. That is how Nescafe came about. From the beginning Nestle’s very own coffee specialist Max Morgenthaler and his team had a simple proposition: making a delicious cup of coffee by simply adding water. They worked hard to find a way to make soluble coffee that would not lose out on the coffee’s natural flavour. Seven years later, they found the answer, and called it: Nescafe. Through the years, Nescafe became a staple in everybody’s live, everywhere. As a matter of fact it was also included in the food rations that American forces received during the war, and following that Nescafe’s popularity grew steadily through the rest of the 1940s, and further, and continues to grow today, when we have a selection of Nescafe to suit all the different tastes around the world.

A long time has passed since Nescafe was first introduced yet the simple philosophy and tradition behind its production have remained pure and unique: making a delicious cup of coffee by simply adding water. Throughout its long history Nescafe has built upon its very early traditions, among them the respect for the origins of coffee and the hard work to ensure you only have the best in your cup. These traditions and philosophies are what the name Nescafe is all about. As a matter of fact Nestlé had originally struggled to come up with a name for their new product. They combined the word Nestle and the Italian word for coffee – café – to create an aura of romance and capture the imagination. This was coupled with an aggressive and expensive advertising campaign that aimed to make Nescafe widely popular. It worked! The Nescafe name has become a synonym for coffee that has lasted through history. It is now, this history and these roots that the new Nescafe Vintage Collection celebrates, along with a customer loyalty record that has also lasted through history.
