Arriva Fares

Malta Independent Wednesday, 6 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

I would like to express my feelings following my first trip on the Arriva buses. I am Spanish, but have been living here for some time and have a Maltese ID card. I was going to take a bus for the first time on Arriva, departing from Sliema to Valletta. The bus driver told me the fare cost €2.20 and I asked him if it cost the same if you are a holder of a Maltese ID card, and he replied in the positive. The Maltese ID card was useless. I didn’t complain so much because it was my first time and I was not sure about the fares.

But when I went back home, I checked on the Arriva website and I found that this price was for people who do not have a Maltese ID card.

I complained to the company by emailing them. However, I have not received any answer yet.

I don’t know if all the bus drivers are acting in the same way or if this was only an isolated incident but I think this attitude towards foreigners is intolerable.
