Malta Independent Wednesday, 6 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

For the first time, since its inauguration in 1996, this honour was played between two second division sides, the winners of last season. M’skala had absolutely no worries in this match, and the final score is not a true reflection of the outcome of the game. M’skala had built up a solid advantage by the interval, leading by 11-2, and then they tapered off after the break, as Ta Xbiex could share the exchanges. In the final session the Ta Xbiex side obtained a more respectable score, with a four goal patch, before the winners could close down the match with their last two strikes.

The two sides did not make proper use of their extra player instances, with M’skala scoring twice from five occasions, and Ta Xbiex netted three times from seven man ups.

For M’skala Milos Koralji had a field day, grabbing a total of nine goals, and his brother, Mihailo, together with Claudio Spiteri de Barro claiming two goals each. The losers had Yuri Szeles with a five goal haul, including two penalties, and Michael Cardona netting two more.

At the end of the game the Sports Journalists general secretary, Sandro Micallef, together with the ASA president, Joe Caruana Curran, presented the Cup to the M’skala captain, Joe Cremona, It was the second time they won this honour, with the first one being won a top division outfit.
