Ghanaian Keeper and Brazilian forward for Floriana FC

Premier League club Floriana FC yesterday announced that an agreement has been reached with Ghana goalkeeper William Amamoo and Brazilian forward Edilson Fiori Dos Santos to join the club as their new foreigners.

Both players signed one year contracts and are expected to make an apperance in the Maltese club’s Europa League matches against AEK Larnaca.

26 year old Ghana international goalkeeper Amamoo has represented his country three times. He started his career in his homeland before playing in Romania, Hungary, Egypt and Sweden. He has vast international experience and played in the now defunct Intertoto Cup

Amamoo (photo) nicknamed “The Black Panther” in his country because of his exceptional reflexes is one of the best goalkeeping products Ghana has ever produced and in fact he has won the Goalkeeper of the Year award three times in different European leagues.

Brazilian Edilson Fiori dos Santos is 25 years old and he has left a very good impression in his recent trial including the friendly match played against Sliema last Saturday.

Dos Santos should be an important asset as he is capable of playing in all roles in attack thus given coach Michael Woods more options. His has speed and Floriana will be his first taste of European football after having playing in Brazil during his career. The last club he played for was Inter Santa Maria.

Meanwhile, Luke Agius has agreed on a new three- year contract extension with the Greens.

A Floriana product, Agius scored one goal last season against Hibernians before joining St. George’s on loan for the second part of the season.

Club president Johann Said said that he is extremely happy that another Floriana FC product has been confirmed in the squad for next season.

But keeper Simon Agius will be joining Gzira United on a permanent transfer.

Simon Agius had joined Floriana from Lija Athletics and was instrumental in the team that reached the final of the FA Trophy in the 2005/2006 season.

Floriana FC have also appointed Frank Schembri as the team’s new assistant coach.

Frank Schembri has vast experience in local football having until recently been engaged in the technical sector of the MFA and previously also with the technical sector of Melita.

President Said showed his satisfaction with this appointment and said that he is confident that Frank Schembri’s experience will be invaluable to coach Michael Woods.

Floriana are looking forward to their coming committment in the Europa League second qualifying round against AEK Larnaca of Cyprus. The first leg is to be played on Thursday 14th July at the Hibs Stadium.

All Floriana FC members will have the opportunity to buy the tickets at a subsidised price of €15, instead of €25, when buying the tickets befortehand.. Children 12 years and under will be admitted for free even when not accompanied by a paying adult.
