Swimming: New Records set at championships

Swimmers from IASIS, Neptunes, San Giljan, Sirens, Sliema, and SW Elite Clubs participated in the National Championships .

There were several good results, among them four new national records and others in the age groups.

The following are the new records:

National records

Neptunes Swimmer Nicola Muscat improved on her previous timing of 31.90 when she recorded 31.74 in the 50m backstroke. She also clocked 29.26 in the 50m fly to better her own previous record.

Neptunes Men Relay team made up of Matthew Zammit, Mark Sammut, Edward Caruana Dingli and Andrew Chetcuti achieved a new national record in the 4 x 50m freestyle when they stopped the clock in 1.38.83.

Neptunes Men Relay Team made us of Mark Sammut, Andrea M Agius, Andrew Chetcuti and Edward Caruana Dingli achieved a new national record in the 4 x 50m medley whey they clocked 1.81.81.

Age Group records

Age Group A – SW Elite swimmer Francesca Falzon clocked 32.82 in the 50m free.

Age Group B – Neptunes swimmer Neil Muscat clocked 28.03 in the 50m free and 31.65 to better his own previous record in the 50m back.

Age Group C - Sliema swimmer Matthew Galea clocked 30.28 in the 50m backstroke in the first leg of the 4 x50m medley race with the Sliema team.

Age Group C – Neptunes swimmer Julian Harding clocked 2.23.00 to better his own previous record in the 200 IM.

Presentation of medals/memento

During these championships, medals were presented by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clyde Puli, Chris Agius, PL spokesman for Sports, Joe Caruana Curran, ASA President, and Mark Galea, ASA Vice-President and chairman of the ASA Technical Swimming Committee.

Mr Puli, also presented mementos to Neil Agius and Talisa Pace in appreciation of their contribution to the ASA national team as both decided to quit competition after a number of years in this sport.
