This coming week will see Badminton Malta active on the international front.
Two players from its Junior Academy will be travelling to Edinburgh (Scotland) in order to take part in a training camp and a tournament with Scottish players of their same age group.
The Maltese players are Kyle Sciberras and Nigel Degaetano. They will be led by John Attard, Badminton Malta’s General Secretary, under whose initiative this participation came about.
The overall event will consist of an initial two-and-a-half day training camp which will tackle the salient technical and tactical aspects of the game. This will be followed by a half-day tournament in which all the training camp participants will be taking part.
The Maltese players have been preparing themselves well for this event, successfully juggling their studies and exams with their training sessions.
For both of them, this will be the third international experience beyond our shores following their earlier successful participation in tournaments held in Cyprus and Sicily.
Meanwhile, George Camilleri will be representing Badminton Malta at this year’s edition of Badminton Europe’s “Summer School”, which will be taking place in Madrid.
This is actually a seven-day intensive training camp for U/17 players and their coaches, providing the participants with the opportunity to assimilate the latest playing and coaching developments of the game under the guidance of nine professional high-performance coaches selected individually by Badminton Europe for this event.
Camilleri has been on the local scene for a number of years, accruing playing and coaching experience – focussing mainly on junior players – with Shuttles Fort Blocks Badminton Club.
