Shooting: ISSF World Cup 2011 Maribor - William Chetcuti One clay short of barrage finals

Maltese Double trap shooters William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb yesterday took part in The ISSF World Cup 2011 at Maribor, Slovania.

William managed 49/50 in his first round, 48/50 in his second and 46/50 in his third round, for a total of 143/150. With this score he was one clay short of qualifying for the barrage finals.

Also yesterday junior shooter Nathan Lee Xuereb made his debut for his first ISSF World Cup where he managed 41, 41 and 46 for a total of 128/150 that is an ISSF MQS.

Both shooters were assisted by MSSF Double Trap coach Jimmy Bugeja. The top world Double Trap shooters were among the 57 participants from several Nations that took part in this event.

Wilson Peter Robert Russel from Great Britain won Gold with 49,49,48=146+49=195 followed by Hu Binyan from China winning Silver with 49,50,47=146+48=194+s/off+2 from India’s Sodhi Ronjan who had to settle for Bronze with 48,49,48=145+49=194+s/off+1.

Richmond Joshua from USA was fourth with 49,50,47=146+48=192, Italy’s Di Spigno fifth with 49,48,47=144+47=191 and Hungarian Bognar Richard closed in sixth with 49,49,47=145+46=191.

Some of these shooters will be travelling to Malta next week for The Second Malta International Double trap Grand Prix to be organised by The Malta shooting Sport Federation on Sunday 24 July.

In the meantime Maltese Skeet shooter Clive Farrugia will be competing in The ISSF World Cup, Maribor tomorrow and Friday in the Skeet event on 125 clays.
