I could not agree with Martin Scicluna’s contribution in the Malta Independent, published on Wednesday on the issue of manners and driving.
Mr Scicluna is right, manners have everything to do with being courteous. But there is another issue at stake, it is precisely manners which have an effect on how safe we are when on the roads.
If one cannot obey traffic rules, then one has no driving manners. If one has no driving manners, then one becomes a danger on the road. I believe that his piece was insightful and did get to the heart of the matter, but quite honestly, I don’t think we can ever improve. Manners are deteriorating, and as a result, so will our driving standards.
