Your correspondent in last Sunday’s article, entitled “Hero or Zero”, follows an ancient ‘native’ tradition of equivocation when faced with assessing the worth of the man of the moment; first a murderer then on second thoughts a god.
I am sure our Minister for Transport would not claim that he walks in the steps of St Paul, and I think he would be equally ready to deny any debacle on the part of his party. He would certainly shrug off the blandishments heaped on him by this champion for divorce.
The fact is Austin Gatt is a plain, blunt honest man, uncommon in our political class, endowed with the intelligence and the political will to see where the best interests of our country lie and the courage to confront the bully boys when it comes to seeing through a completely new, national bus transport service.
It will take tenacity coupled with competence and a great deal of moral stamina to see the great project to its proper, desirable end, but it will finally not only prove to be of great benefit to all ordinary people but will also lay low the gang of bullies who have in the past shown themselves always ready to hold the country to ransom.
