More Maltese table football players obtained successes at the recently held Grand Prix of Rome. These results are enriching the Malta Table Football Sports Association and ensuring that the level reached by Maltese players is more than acceptable.
Following the success in the English Grand Prix in May and the Major of Bologna some weeks later, Joseph Mifsud continued his stream of success in Rome at the FISTF Grand Prix in the capital of Italy. Points taken from this tournament ensured that Joseph Mifsud got closer to Erich Hinkelmann in the rankings table and now the distance between the two veterans is only a little more than 150 points.
In this category, another satisfactory result came from Jason Pisani, who is also the treasurer of the MTFSA. He reached the quarter final stages by improving his game from one tournament to another. He is now also in the first 70 in the international rankings list.
In the teams category, the Greek side of Atlas FTC, with whom both Derek Conti and Mark Gauci are registered, reached the semifinal of the Rome Grand Prix.
The two Maltese players offered their service this year to the Greek team and achieved a number of satisfactory results.
In Rome, the team could only reach the semifinal and although equalising the game, the goal difference was in favour of Perugia 1973 who eventually won the tournament.
Thanks to the Maltese players, the team managed this year to reach the third podium of the Rankings.
For Angelo Borg, although the dullness of missing the final match against Battista (Italy) leaves some sour taste, the international rankings of June crown him as the player number one in the Under 19 category.
Angelo showed determination and consistency during this season. He managed to reach eight finals out of nine international tournaments.
In the Open Category the main result to note was the quarter finals position for Mario Camilleri (Valletta SC).
Camilleri showed improvement along these months to deserve a call for the national team to participate in Palermo during the World Cup.
Camilleri confirmed that although a number of Italian clubs, and particulary a Greek club, showed their interest in his service he is to play for Valletta SC next season.
