Table Tennis Nursery has elevated the status of its student Jessica Pace to that of Role Model athlete. Following her success at the Games of the Small states in Liechtenstein where Jessica, together with her partner Lu Ping Fei, won two Bronze medals, the TTN board was unanimous in its decision.
TTN director and head coach David Pace explained that the proposal was welcomed by one and all. David explained that the status is there for a double interpretation, first to acknowledge Jessica for her dedication, results and sporting behaviour in this first experience achievement at 16 years of age, and then for all the TTN students, including other junior players from the local Table Tennis community, to be inspired and push their personal barriers to the limit.
Recently TTN students David Grima, Karl Wizmayer, Luca Balzan, captained and managed by Martin Borg, participated in the Malta national league Second division.
It was their first experience and TTN Rockets finished the season by being promoted to the first division.
Jessica Pace won the Malta Ladies title at the seniors National Championships and together with David Pace won the Malta mixed doubles title for 2011.
Various plans to move forward and give a new dimension to table tennis are being put into action by TTN, the latest being to offer the opportunity to the Maltese community to travel abroad and follow ITTF sanctioned championships live.
Recently at the Malta Junior national championships, honours by TTN students were claimed as follows:
Boys U13 Plate event was won by Luke Cassar – Boys U13 Main event Jurgen Sammut finalist – Boys U15 Plate event Christian Degorgio finalist – Boys U15 Main event Adam Zouari finalist – U18 Plate event Luca Balzan winner.
In the girls U18 round robin TTN girls obtained first place through Jessica Pace, Amy De Gaetano was third and Micheala Scerri fourth. The summer period for the Table Tennis Nursery includes two in house Grand Prix tournaments, continued enhancement of skills at all levels during coaching sessions and the beneFIT pre-season physical preparation programme.
