How Geography helps us understand Il-Kantilena

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

To date all the studies on Il-Kantilena concerned its literary, historical and linguistic aspects. In this presentation with a fresh theme, Dr Schembri, who is the Co-ordinator of the Geography Department of the University of Malta, will describe the different types of rock which has formed the Maltese Islands. An interpretation of the colours mentioned in the poem will be given together with an explanation of the phenomenon through which rain water effects clay and the latter renders the above rock unstable to such an extent that rock shifts and buildings collapse. The locations where this phenomenon occurs will also be indicated.

L-Akkademja tal-Malti is organizing the event together with Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum.

Place: Palazzo Falson, l-Imdina

Date: Sunday, 24 July

Time: 10.30 – 11.30 am

Entrance free.

Following the presentation the cafeteria will be available.
