Waterpolo: Sirens Vanquish lethargic Exiles

Malta Independent Saturday, 30 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Sirens Ritter Sports 16

3CX Exiles 10

(4-2)(4-2)(4-2)(4-4)

These were the first points for Sirens in the top division, as they avenged the defeat by Exiles in the opening round of play.

Sirens also put more distance between the two sides, at the bottom of the standings. Sirens had second goalie, Luke Caruana, back and they made good use of their numerical advantages when they scored six times from eight man-ups. They won the first three sessions with identical scores, and then shared the final period with their opponents, as they controlled play till the end.

Exiles will surely try to forget this match as quickly as they could. They are still pointless, at the bottom of the table, and they were not so sure at the back, as they were of lately.

They have Karl Rizzo Naudi still missing but Andrew Zarb Cousin returned to their ranks. In their man-ups they were not so hot, as they managed to convert only half of their eight extra player occasions.

Sirens had Clint Mercieca firing in a poker of goals, and Peter Borg and Goran Krstonosic put in a hat trick each. For Exiles Marco Cuk also scored four goals but he was guilty of missing a penalty with a central shot saved by Joe Sammut.
