Mosta needed only a point from their last match of the ‘Gammari’ Muscat’ Mosta tournament against Tarxien to finish top. But the Blues dominated proceedings and in the end win comfortably 4-1, after leading 1-0 at the interval.
That meant they finished on top with a maximum nine points from three matches and a tournament triumph after three years.
Kurt Magro 2, Nikola Arsenic and Jonathan Bajada were Mosta’s scorers, while Adrian Carabott scored the consolation goal for the Rainbows.
In the other match, Birkirkara defeated Vittoriosa Stars 5-1 – a comfortable win which only helped them to secure second place.
Their hero was yet again Spanish striker Moses Avila who scored his second hat-trick of the tournament. An own goal by Johan Spiteri and another by substitute Terence Vella completed the scoring for the Stripes. Tassio Lopez had put Vittoriosa in the lead on 38 minutes, but in the end they were dominated by a superior Stripes outfit.
