Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 August 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Balzan Youths won the Hibernians Sigma tournament on Monday night despite figuring in a 1-1 draw with Marsaxlokk in their last encounter.

They finished with 5 points, one ahead of second placed Hibernians and Qormi who finished with four each. Marsaxlokk finished at the bottom with two points.

In the other match on Monday night, Qormi defeated Hibernians 2-1.

In Monday’s first match, Kwam Adjeman Pamboe put Marsaxlokk ahead on 32 minutes but Pedro Dos Santos Calcado scored the equaliser for the Youths on 65 minutes.

Following this result, Hibernians needed a win from the last game to overtake the Youths at the top of the standings.

Qormi shocked them when Shola Shodija put them ahead on 14 minutes but Edison Luis Dos Santos equalised on 33 minutes. However, early in the second half, Shola Shodija notched the winner for Stephen Azzopardi’s side.

After the game, Ivan Busuttil from Sigma Coatings presented the trophy to Balzan captain Rennie Forace.

Patrick Borg on loan at Marsaxlokk

Birkirkara defender Patrick Borg has been loaned for one year to Marsaxlokk.

Borg is a Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery product. He made his debut in the Premier League on 15 April 2006 when Birkirkara faced Msida S.J. - he was included as a substitute.
