Neptunes held on to their unbeaten status, as they recorded their third seasonal victory over their age old rivals, their best yet, as the others were both on odd goal wins. Although the match, as expected was a very close one, Neptunes held sway for most of the encounter. At first Sliema drew first blood, and then drew level on three more occasions. At the halfway stage the champions held a slight 6-5 advantage. They went one better in the third period, but Sliema erased their double disadvantage, at the start of the final session. This augured well for the Ghar id-Dud outfit, but it seemed to serve as a springboard for Neptunes, who struck with a trio of goals, to send Sliema reeling, and that was that. There was no way back after that mortal blow, and the champions controlled the remainder of the session, to haul themselves up into sole top place, and also with a match in hand over second placed San Giljan.
Neptunes made a couple of changes from their bench players. Sliema continued to rotate their foreign players, with Rajmund Fodor and Mark Kallay taking to the water. They had Clint Debono returning to the side, and Michael Rizzo keeping his place, but Paul Privitera was missing, besides long term absentees, Jerome Gabarretta and John Brownrigg.
Neptunes were perfect in their man ups, converting all the six that they had. Sliema were not so confident, with a tally of three goals from seven numerical advantages.
Steve Camilleri enhanced his top scorer placing, with an addition of a poker of goals, and Tamas Molnar added on three more. Sliema had mark kallay with a nap hand of goals, and John Soler returned to his scoring duties, with a hat trick.
