For the past two weeks, Malta has been the base for the English Volley Camp organised by Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlin of Modena, Italy. 

Almost 30 players from various parts of Italy, as well as from Russia and Spain, formed part of this delegation.

During their stay, besides the intensive training at the Cottonera Sports Complex, the participants have had the opportunity to visit Mdina, Birgu by night and Valletta  as well as enjoying fun afternoons at Rinella Bay, Golden Bay and Ghadira Bay.

No doubt, however, that the highlight of their stay was the whole day trip to Gozo, where they visited the Azure Window, Calypso Cave, Ramla Bay and the capital city, Victoria.

During their stay in Malta the players became students and sat for 21 hours of English lessons delivered at St Edward’s College, where the group was also residing.

Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini President and Italian volleyball legend, Rodolfo Giovenzana, also visited the Island, accompanied by the cub’s media official who has filmed training sessions, English lessons and all other activities organised during these days.

The coverage, which will be aired in Italy, will no doubt serve as excellent publicity for the Maltese Islands, both as a tourist resort and also as a possible volleyball destination.

In their last few hours in Malta, the SdP Directors left this message on their Facebook group: “We are now coming to an end to this new experience for us. They have been 12 days characterised by intense moments of hard work both in the classroom and in the gym, alternated with pleasant leisure activities. We have had loads of fun! No doubt the kids will return home enriched from both the linguistic point of view and from that of sport and culture .... we are sure they had fun too!”

Once again, Southend Volleyball Club thanked the local authorities who have assisted in the organisation of this event, particularly the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and the Malta Tourism Authority, besides the Malta Volleyball Association.
