Sirens ASC have embarked on an ambitious experiment wherein they have decided to merge their waterpolo and swimming schools for children to enable them to make a better career choice when it comes to the respective disciplines.
The announcement was made during a press breakfast at the Sirens waterpolo pitch which was addressed by members of the club committee.
Club President Lino Vella spoke about the history of the club which began after the Second World War when several players who used to congregate around the budding seaside town. The swimming schools and waterpolo schools then continued to grow with hundreds of new members congregating and developing into fine athletes.
Sirens ASC coach Ivan Riolo spoke about the decision to merge the two schools describing the logistical difficulties encountered when both were separate. He said that the merger was a pilot project which would nurture the various talents of the children and help them make a proper choice to which sport they would like to practise.
The school is already garnering success with over 200 elements attending under the tutelage of distinguished coaches such as top national swimmer Davinia Mangion. In fact a German boy who is ranked sixth in swimming in his country and is vacationing in Malta has become a regular attendee of the school raising its prestige considerably.
There are also classes in synchronised swimming with the world famous Japanese coach Saho Harada spearheading these classes which already have 15 elements participating.
