The Cricket Summer league continued last Saturday.
Melita C.C took on Krishna C.C in the first game. Krishna batted first with Simon Mayeri and Andy Lenard opening the innings. Mayeri did not trouble the scorers and was soon back in the pavilion.
Lenard went on to retire (local rule where a batsman retires after facing 30 balls). Lenard scored 30 runs. Bikram Arora also retired scoring 31 runs which included one six and two fours.
Sam Aquilina played well for 12 runs. With extras, the Krishna team totalled 112 runs. For Melita Steve Mault was the main wicket taker with two. Four other bowlers took a wicket each.
In reply the game was in a balance until Ian Pendlebury scored a magnificent 30 runs from 22 balls which included four fours and a six.
In these past two games he has really come out of the closet with his batting. Nowell Khosla also made 30 runs and batted well hitting two sixes and a four.
The winning runs came in the 18th over for the Melita team. For Krishna Kevin Krishna was the main wicket taker with two. Melita earned seven points from the win and now have eight points. Krishna earned one point and also have eight points.
In the second game Overseas CC batted first against Marsa CC. Mike Caruana and Roger Bradley opened the batting. Both batsmen managed to retire.
Caruana scored 27 runs and Bradley three. Paul Bradley also retired and scored 25 runs. Seven more batsmen batted and totalled 24 runs between them. Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker for Marsa with three.
The Marsa batting proved too strong with fine performances from Dave Borg (26 runs retired), Matt Booth (19), Frank Spiteri (12), Mark G. Sacco (12) and George Agius (10). The winning runs for Marsa also came in the 18th over.
For the Overseas, Paul Bradley was again the main wicket taker with two.
Marsa earned seven points for the win and now top the league with 14 points. Overseas did not earn any points and our at the bottom of the league table.
Tomorrow Melita C.C play Overseas C.C and Marsa C.C play Krishna C.C
