The Board of Directors of Banif Bank (Malta) plc has appointed Adrian Coppini and Paulo E. Machado Fernandes to the bank’s executive committee.
Mr Coppini and Mr Machado Fernandes will occupy the posts of Chief Officer Corporate Services and Chief Financial Markets & Investments Officer respectively.
Mr Coppini joined Banif Bank at its inception and was instrumental in the setting up of the bank’s operations in Malta, where he led its HR and Corporate Services Departments with overall responsibility for human resources, purchasing, properties and maintenance, health and safety, security and administration services.
He has held senior management positions in the airline, electronics and investment promotion sectors as chief officer HR & Corporate Services at Air Malta plc, executive company secretary at Malta Enterprise Ltd and managing director at Ero Electronic (Malta) Ltd, among others.
His sound international exposure is combined with a solid knowledge of start-up operations, business development, general management, strategy and marketing.
Mr Coppini is currently a member of the board of Air Malta plc and the Council deputy president of the Brussels-based Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques.
He holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Malta. He is married and has three children.
Mr Machado Fernandes began his professional life in the banking sector in 1985, working in the areas of finance and international financial markets at Bank of Lisbon & South Africa, in Johannesburg. He later moved to Banif – Banco Internacional do Funchal in Portugal, and was instrumental in the integration of the Treasury and Financial Markets Departments.
In 1997, he joined the Santander Group to carry out similar functions in the financial markets and asset management in the retail banking and investment banking fields.
After 10 years, Mr Machado Fernandes was invited by Banif Financial Group to be part of the team responsible for establishing the bank in Malta. He was appointed Head of Treasury with the responsibility of setting up the bank’s treasury and trading room, capitalising on the extensive knowledge and expertise he had acquired in his career.
He participates in different working committees, both at international and national levels, including Banif Financial Group’s Treasury Committee, the Asset & Liability Committee and the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process Committee of Banif Bank. He also sits on the Malta Financial Markets Committee and the Malta Financial Stability Forum of the Central Bank of Malta.
He holds a degree in Business Management.
