Cricket: Marsa-Australia Over 60s Series ends one-all Melita and Marsa win weekend league matches

On Saturday, the Summer league continued with two games and on Sunday the Marsa C.C played against the Australian over 60s team who are on their way to play three test games against England. The tour has been organised by Rob Wilson.

On Saturday Melita C.C played Overseas C.C where the later batted first and totalled their highest score of the tournament, 115 runs.

Mike Caruana scored 25 runs, Austin O’Malley 22 and Roger Bradley 11 as the main scorers. For Melita three bowlers took two wickets each, Steve Mault, Andy Naudi and Greg Symons.

The game went into the last over with one ball remaining for the Melita team to make the runs. Andy Naudi scored 28 runs, and David Eyons and Nowell Khosla both scored 23 runs each. The Melita team earned seven points from the game while Overseas earned one point.

In the second game the Marsa team overpowered the Krishna team bowling them out for 51 runs. Sam Aquilina was the only batsmen to get past double figures with 18 runs. Derek Ali bowled his team into the winning position by taking five wickets. Ronnie Sacco (16 runs) and Mark G. Sacco (14 runs) where the main run scorers for Marsa in their win.

The Marsa team earned ten points for their win while Krishna earned one point.

On Sunday the Australian team who had two teams, one to play the 20-over game and another for the 40-over game. It was the biggest touring squad we have had with over 40 people.

In the first game the visitors batted first and totalled a mere 96 runs. Greg Lott top scored with 26 runs, Clive Wundersitz and Alan Stephens, both scored 15, being the main run scorers. Adam Krishna was the main wicket taker for Marsa with two wickets.

The Marsa team were going along nicely until Chris Naudi had to retire when on 24 runs. The Marsa team were bowled out for 85 runs with only George Agius making 30runs in the cause.

For the Australians, Bill Dobson took three wickets while Dave Welford, Alan Stephens, and Rob Wilson took two wickets each.

In the second game the Australians batted first and totalled 127 runs with Ian Fraser top scoring with 43 runs. Chris Toben and Dave Axelby both scored 17 and Arthur Pritchard 14. For the Marsa team Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with two.

The Marsa team were able to make the runs with Paul Bradley top scoring with 37 runs. George Agius scored 29, Nowell Khosla 17, Sam Aquilina 15 and Pierre Naudi 12.

For the Australians Arthur Pritchard took three wickets and Dave Axelby took two. The series ended one all.

Next Saturday Melita take on Marsa and Overseas play Krishna in the Summer league.
