Swiss midfielder Carlo Polli is set to join Hamrun Spartans today.

The 22-year-old former Chiasso player was keen to make the move to Malta. He was quoted as saying: “The reason why I chose Malta was simple. I have been told by several colleagues that it is a tough league with several strong sides. I need a new challenge and a new experience and I think this was the right occasion for me. I am now looking forward to have a good championship with the Spartans.”

Polli, who was born in Lugano, started his career with the Under 18 Ticino team and in 2006, he was promoted to the senior squad. He played in the Lugano senior team as a professional but then joined Italian club Genoa for whom he played regularly in the Primavera side. He helped them win the Coppa Italia (Primavera) against Roma and the Super Cup against Palermo.

In February 2010, Genoa loaned the player to Swiss club Locarno. But till the end of the past season, he was on loan to FC Chiasso. With Locarno he made 10 appearances and with Chiasso 23.

Hamrun expect Polli to be available for their first league match against Balzan Youths on Sunday.
