Waterpolo - BoV national League: Leaders Neptunes aware of Sliema’s challenge

Malta Independent Friday, 19 August 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Sliema McDonalds have been finding their form again, just in time before tomorrow’s top clash with leaders Neptunes Emirates as the championship play-offs draw closer.

Sliema are currently in third place, two points behind San Giljan Giuseppe, after two consecutive wins against 3CX Exiles and San Giljan although they are still missing some injured players.

Meanwhile Neptunes, the only unbeaten side so far in Division 1, remain on a high. They have 23 points from six matches and are almost sure of finishing top of the standings before the play-offs between the top four sides are played and will give their all not to lose against main rivals Sliema.

San Giljan though can benefit and make sure of remaining in second place if they return to winning ways and beat bottom side 3CX Exiles in this evening’s other clash from Division 1. San Giljan lost their last two matches against Sliema and Neptunes and cannot afford more slips at this stage.

Exiles’ win in their last outing against Sirens (11-10) might have rekindled faint hopes of making it with the top four as they now trail Sirens by only four poinst with a game in hand.

In Division 2, leaders Marsascala meat.com.mt should find little difficulty to beat one of the two bottom sides, Otters Nivea in this evening’s first match at Tal-Qroqq Pool. The other match from the same Division this weekend is between Ta’Xbiex and Valletta Dhalia (tomorrow). Valletta have five points more than their opponents in the standings.

Today

Tal-Qroqq Pool: Div. II 5.45pm, Marsascala-Otters; Div. I 7pm, San Giljan-Exiles

Tomorrow

Tal-Qroqq Pool: Div. II 4.45pm, Ta’Xbiex-Valletta; Div. I 6pm, Sliema-Neptunes
