In reply to the letter with the title ‘Stench’ by Lynn Zahra (TMID, 19 August), WasteServ Malta Ltd would like to confirm that during the period indicated the plant operated under normal conditions and there were no occurrences which could have led to any abnormal stench as described.
WasteServ is not in agreement with the use of the term ‘lackadaisical’ to descibe the ongoing operations at the Sant’Antnin Waste Treatment Plant since this hints at a careless attitude. On the contrary, WasteServ is taking all the neccessary measures not to create any inconvenience to neighbouring residents. Moreover, the company’s main offices are now situated within the same plant and can closely monitor the plant’s operations. The plant is buzzing with activity on a daily basis and contributing significantly to improve the recycling performance of our country and the generation of renewable energy from waste. It may be interesting for Ms Zahra to note that some 60 40-foot container loads of recyclable material are exported every month from this plant alone.
Finally, Ms Zahra would be more than welcome to call our freephone 8007-2200 in order to schedule an appointment to visit the plant to get a true and first hand experience of the very fast paced operations which WasteServ conducts with enthusiasm for the benefit of our country.
