Modern Wives’ tales

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 August 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

How long are we going to continue taking notice of studies that incorporate the phrase “this might do this to you?”

Studies with “may” “might” and “could” should be banned. What we want are facts not conjectures. The United Nations, the European Union and The World Health Organisation are doing precious little to eliminate such so-called studies.

The studies are quite often done by industries that want to promote their product. They just find a professor who is ready to promote their product and gullible people buy it.

Sometimes studies are issued so that the professor in question appears to be publishing and so gets funds or a promotion.

Surely something should be done to stop this racket.
