It was with great dismay that I read Fr Mario Attard’s contribution entitled “A foresighted Catholic Feminist” (TMIS, 14 August). Words seldom fail me when it come to penning my thoughts but I confess to being so dumbstruck by his writing that it is with great difficulty and restraint that I find myself reacting to his idea of a Catholic woman.

It is a pity that Fr Attard chose to quote Edith Stein, a Jewish convert in Auschwitz where mass murders were carried by none other than men and men alone. So many great female personalities in the history of the world and the history of the Church yet he chooses to quote a school of thought that is not only outdated and bizarre but downright disrespectful to modern day woman.

I will not give more credence to Fr Attard’s writing albeit my saying that I find it hugely disappointing and of great sorrow. I put my faith in the belief that this is not what the Catholic Church in Malta believes and endeavours to achieve for the Maltese woman through so called ‘religious education’!
