Qormi FC are seeking compensation from Birkirkara FC who have signed Nigerian striker Shola.
Shola had arrived in Malta on an Mqabba initiative. When he was released by the club, he joined Qormi, and later Floriana, for a trial, but neither club came to terms with the player because it was alleged he had problems with his visa. Shola had even played for Qormi in some friendly matches, including those in the Hibs Sigma tournament.
On Saturday it was announced that Shola had signed a two-year contract with Birkirkara FC.
According to Qormi president Redino Apap who was speaking on Radio 101 during the programme Replay, the club had also asked the MFA to see whether there had been any irregularity over the player’s move to Birkirkara.
Apap also lashed out at Floriana FC president Johann Said and said it was not true that Floriana did not know that the player had visa problems. The Qormi president insisted that it was he himself who told Said about the player’s problems.
