Couples For orphans

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

With so much children being abused in orphanages in Malta and Gozo, something has to be done. Surely couples could be found to look after the children. Religious people are not the ideal people to look after children because, without wanting to, they give the idea that sex is something dirty and sinful.

One of the main orphanages in Malta keeps children from a very young age with one set of nuns and then entrusts them, when they are little more than toddlers, to another set of nuns, with boys making another move when they are about 11 years old.

Surely such moves are very detrimental to the development of the children. The children should be in the care of couples who would look after them in conjunction with the children’s relatives if such exist.

I hope such a suggestion is taken up soon.
