Sliema Wanderers president Steve Abela has tendered his resignation.
Contacted by The Malta Independent yesterday, Abela confirmed that he had resigned but added that it was only for personal reasons and nothing else.
He insisted that he will still honour his commitments with the club at least till the end of the season. “In particular I have to finish the Tigne complex negotiations over the upper pitch and the five-a-side,” he said.
Abela said he had enjoyed the three years he has acted as president of the club and the one year he had assisted Robert Arrigo, the club’s former president.
He added: “But now I felt that I had to quit as I needed more time with my family. I still love Sliema W. and will be helping the administration which, for the time being, will be in the hands of the two vice-presidents, Mike Bonello and Keith Perry.”
