Youth Football – APS Bank Under 17 Section B: Superior Qormi easily beat Attard

Malta Independent Friday, 16 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Qormi were by far the better outfit in this game and had they taken all the chances they created the final scoreline would have been much different.

If they keep up the present form, they will make a quick return to Section A next season.

Attard have to improve in their future performances as they lacked coordination in all departments.

The first two actions were created by Qormi. Karl Sciortino served Clint Barbara with a through ball but he missed the bar from outside the area. Carl Mizzi then released Clayton Casha on the left flank but the ball was cleared to a corner from his cross.

In Attard’s first action, Matthew Cassar Overend was fouled outside the area and Qormi keeper Neil Smart saved from the free kick by Gianluca Simiana.

Qormi opened the score in the 11th minute. Casha served Barbara in the area who was tripped by the onrushing Attard keeper Jean P Deguara. Joshua Barbara made no mistake from the spot with a hard rising shot.

Hardly a minute later the score nearly became 2-0 when Gilmour Azzopardi pounced on a defensive indecision and after entering the area he saw his shot missing the upright by inches.

Four minutes before the interval Qormi doubled the score. Gorg Portelli scored from a rebound after Deguara had partially saved a free kick by Azzopardi.

In the first action by Attard after the restart, Cassar Overend dribbled past an opponent outside the area and the ball hit the bar from his shot with Smart beaten.

At the other end, Christian Frendo set Azzopardi through; the latter entered the area and after dribbling past the onrushing Deguara, the ball was cleared on the line from his shot.

Qormi added two further goals in the space of two minutes in the 62nd and 63rd minutes. Substitute Ryan Degiorgio scored with a hard grounder from outside the area and the same player then served Clint Barbara with another cross from the left and for the latter to score from outside the area.

Just before the end Deguara denied Karl Sciortino with a diving save from his header after a well-taken flag kick by Clint Barbara.
