Ministers That do not know their business

Malta Independent Sunday, 18 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Lately, there has been talk about ministers not being experts in their particular fields of influence.

What I suggest is that each party make a list of minimum requirements for each ministry. Then people with the required qualifications would apply to the political party of their choice. These candidates, with their list of qualifications, would also include a list of modifications, which they would introduce if they were chosen for office.

The political parties would make a short list of not more than five candidates each. These candidates would run for election. The elections would be held throughout the nation and not in districts. Also, elections would be held for three candidates from each district to look after the interests of the districts.

The party who gets the most votes in both elections would have the candidates who came first in the party’s list as ministers

I feel that some Members of Parliament would probably boycott such a change. I think that the unions should do their utmost to bring about such a change into effect.

How long are we going to see unions do nothing but ask for a rise that is absorbed in the cost of living, over and over again? The unions should innovate and help to bring real change, if need be by ordering national strikes.

It is high time that we had ministers that were capable in their field.
