In the coming days Scuola di Pallavolo Malta, in collaboration with the Attard Local Council, will be accepting applications for boys and girls born between 2001 and 2003 to participate in its Volley for Children volleyball school.
The aim of this volleyball school is to prepare children to participate in a tournament that will be held in Italy in February 2012. This is the first ever opportunity for Maltese children to participate in a volleyball tournament abroad.
Scuola di Pallavolo Malta has been very active for the past 3 years in strengthening its position through the help of Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini of Modena, Italy. The partnership between the two organisations has already brought to Malta a coaching course and a summer school in 2010 as well as a training camp for Italian players who were training at the Cottonera Sports Complex for almost two weeks this summer.
The Volley for Children school will give all children the opportunity to enjoy a clean and fun sport with their friends. Above all, the young athletes will be the first ever non-Italian children to participate in the Carnival tournament organised by Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini, under the name of Volley in Maschera.
Every year more than 800 children from all over Italy arrive in Modena, all dressed up for Carnival and geared up to play on the 18 volleyball courts set up on purpose for this grand event. The next edition will see the Maltese contingent join in the fun.
Training sessions will take place at the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary in Naxxar and will be held every Sunday starting on 9 October between 10am and 11am. Transport for all applicants residing in Attard will be provided by the Attard Local Council. All participating children will be given a free t-shirt. Participation for this programme starts at €50 per term.
