Floriana will be aiming to go top of the Premier League standings this evening when they face Qormi at the start of the sixth round of matches – before the break for the international matches.
The Greens face Qormi at 6pm while in today’s second match, Marsaxlokk come up against Birkirkara.
Both Floriana and Qormi are passing through a bright phase at present and it seems as if this match will be worth watching.
On one side, Floriana, as already stated, will be aiming for a fifth win which will make them sole leaders at least temporarily, that is, of course depending on the weekend results of current leaders Hibernians and their immediate followers Valletta.
In their last encounter, Floriana played their best football so far this season destroying a poor Marsaxlokk side to the tune of 4-0. Not only was the result the best one achieved so far, but the Greens’ performance was also very impressive.
However, this evening, they will be facing a Qormi side bubbling with enthusiasm, having collected nine points from three wins in their opening five matches.
Stephen Azzopardi’s side has been the surprise package so far this season and it is no wonder they seem to be heading confidently for a Top Six place at the end of the first phase.
However, they will have to keep their feet to the ground and hope that their performances remain on the same level as those witnessed already.
In the second match this evening, Marsaxlokk and Birkirkara seem to have an opportunity to redeem themselves after some poor performances in their recent outings.
Birkirkara lie in mid-table on seven points from five matches, while Marsaxlokk have just four points from the same number of matches.
Both sides, especially Birkirkara, are under pressure to collect the points. If they drop further points, it will become very difficult for them to offer a serious challenge for the honours.
