Although horse-racing is always an entertaining sport, excitement inevitably peaks whenever a championship is held. This weekend sees the start of the Cassar Fuels autumn championship reserved for the best trotters on the Island.
Two heats will be held in today’s meeting (starting at 7pm) and another two heats in Sunday’s (starting at 2pm) during which 47 trotters hailing from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Sweden, will battle out over a 2,140m distance for the selection of the 20 semi-finalists which will compete in two weeks’ time.
Some tight, uncertain races are expected from the crème of trotters based in Malta, including a number of newcomers.
Each programme also includes seven other trotting races, providing an excellent setting for the championship races. These include three Gold class races which will feature various horses which are on the door step of promotion to the top class.
Nine new horses from five countries should debut in these two meetings, thus further increasing variety and competition in the local horse-racing scene.
These two meetings are sure to reserve some top quality racing.
